Staying in a chain hotel on business for a week. For the third time in 6 nights, the fire alarm has gone off between 3-5 am. On a scale of 1-10, how upset would you be? Hotel has offered no explanation. |
10, it would ruin my trip because I could not fall back asleep. Not acceptable at ALL. |
Once would be ok. Three times in six nights? Absolutely livid. |

Fire alarms can happy anywhere. I’ve had it at five star hotels and budget highway chains. |

Hotels are never required to give compensation for fire alarms as it is a safety issue. |
Change hotels. I suggest a Marriott or Ritz. |

This happened to be at a large, 4* luxury chain in the Caribbean a few years back. The hotel comped my night and gave us substantial amount of points in addition. The fire alarm would go off every 30 minutes from about midnight to 6am. |
Having it go off so often for no reason people are going to disregard it? That is a safety issue. |
This has been happening more and more when I travel. Many times the reason is that someone is vaping in their room. People think that vaping is not the same as smoking so they don't go outside. And then we get fire alarms in the middle of the night.
Hotels need to make it clear that vaping is not allowed indoors (rooms need to be non smoking and non vaping). And have some sort of penalty for breaking it. |

Why? Youth Sports clubs staying for a tournament and kids keep pulling it? Yes, they should offer you compensation (this actually happened to me). Electrical issues that they are unsuccessfully trying to fix? Yes they should offer you compensation. Actual smokey situations that could have been a fire - no, they don't owe you anything |
