We will be picking up a kid from camp near Asheville NC around my 50th birthday near Asheville NC so want to turn it into a fun birthday long weekend. We have never been to that area. Two adults, two teens. Please recommend places to stay and things to do. Assume money is no object. TIA. |
Plenty of outfitters do rafting, kayaking, and tube floats on the French Broad River. Very popular in Asheville and surrounding area.
Personally, I love going to Hot Springs, NC and renting a cabin. Do a river float, hike bits of the Appalachian Trail, once we even did a llama walk (there's a llama farm just outside of town). I've never taken a dip in water from the namesake hot springs, but you can do so at Hot Springs Resort and Spa. I will say, Hot Sprigs, in general, is anything by luxurious. In Asheville is the Biltmore, and you can stay on-site. Omni Grove Park Inn is another high-end option. |
Which camp? |
Well, it's not technically a camp, they are doing an Outward Bound program. |
We did this trip as a long wknd last summer also around a camp pick up. We didn't visit the Biltmore, but I wish we had. We did hikes on two days - I let my husband pick them and neither is anything I'd personally suggest you do, but you can find hikes all around. We didn't go tubing but I think I would have liked that. There are some decent restaurants in the West Asheville area. |
Hiking in the area is fun, but don’t forget the city itself. When I was there there were free bluegrass concerts downtown on the weekend, and the local breweries had live music also. River Arts District is no more sadly, but I’m sure many of the galleries have relocated around the area. |
Is it rebuilt already? |
