Australia for a week?

Is it even worth it?

No. Did you take into account flying takes a minimum of 26 hours door to door each way?

It's a very long way to travel for only 7 days. It takes almost 2 days to get there. And the time change is rough. I've found Asia easier because the flights are shorter.

I'd say 10 days is the minimum I'd do to Australia. 2 weeks is better.

You'll lose two days getting there. If you leave LAX on Sunday evening, you'll get to Australia on Tuesday morning. If you return the next Sunday, you get back to LAX on Sunday still after crossing back over the dateline.

What are you wanting to see?

We went for 16 days and it wasn't really enough. Given DH's work schedule, it was the best we could do. We managed an upgrade to first class with the podlike seating which made it possible to actually sleep onboard (like six continuous hours). Also consider the time of year and the climate. We went in spring and spent 5 nights on the ground in Sydney and did day trips from there, then a week in North Queensland (Port Douglas, Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest), then a night near the Sydney Airport before the return flight.

Nope. I only go when I can block out 2 months. I usually visit Auckland, HK and Singapore while I'm in the area too.

I have been for 5 days several times tagging along on DH business trips.
You arrive early morning usually so there is a day there.
We pick one city. Sydney aand Blue Mountains day trip is great for 5 nights.
Or you could do Port Douglas, reef, rainforest, Katoomba.

I went for 10 days and it was great. Went to Melbourne and Sydney with some day trips outside of Sydney. Could I have seen more of Australia? Sure, but this was my opportunity to go to Australia and it was still an awesome, worthwhile trip.

Not if the seven days includes travel time.

I once went to South Africa for 3 days (for work). That was pretty brutal .

Your first day, remember, is sacrificed to jet lag. The time difference is ~12 hours!

I wouldn't go for less than two. The flight is horrendous.

Also what’s nice about these cities?!

I'm going in 3 weeks for a week (on the ground, not counting the travel). It's for a family thing, and while it would be great to stay longer, we can't. Yup it's far, but I think regardless will be worth it and we are really excited!
