1 cm lung nodule

Anonymous
I had pneumonia in November in one lung and had 4 follow up X-rays over past 3 months. None of them ever mentioned anything in my other lung other than clear and normal. Last XRay yesterday showed finally cleared pneumonia, but a note "stable 1cm modular opacity" in that other normal lung got me floored... Anybody has this picked up on XRay? Why nobody ever mentioned on prior 4 ones?

Not modular, nodular

You need a PET scan as soon as possible, OP.

It could be an abscess, could be a cyst, could be a tumour...this is where a PET scan is helpful.

CT scan would probably be first next step

Nope. Directly to PET. Don't mess around, OP.

My DH had this and was nothing. Don't worry yet but ask the dr. My DH just had to monitor it and was from an old infection.

How large was it and how was it found?

Ask them to look at old films to see if they can see this in previous studies. See if changed in size.

I only had one in 2019. Then a series of 5 between November and now. Nobody ever took y me there was something on the first 4 of the latest series, but the last one says "1 cm STABLE nodule"... And in the upper section of the report it references comparison to prior images. Sounds like they picked it visually up on the latest and compared to prior, found it there too thus concluding "stable"?

My guess is that they were mostly focusing on the lung with the infection.

It may not be cancer (I know two people in that situation). Even if it were, it is a big advantage to catch lung cancer before you have symptoms. That is why screening is now recommended for smokers.

This could be a blessing in disguise …but I hope it is nothing. 🤗

I had this after a bout with pneumonia. It was a granuloma confirmed by CT scan and three radiologists. This was well over twenty years ago.
Good luck!

Don't hide from this, OP. My friend is a lung cancer survivor. She's on a new immunotherapy drug that might keep her alive and kicking for her natural lifespan. She runs around like she used to, doing a hundred things at once. But it's imperative you get your doctors to take you seriously and get a PET scan.

Not hiding definitely. Already have CT scan on schedule. My PCP some with radiologist and they decided to do CT to see details before jumping to pet.
