Canceled practice

How often does your club randomly cancel practice?

Do they give an explanation? I am not talking about weather cancels- I am talking about just deciding to cancel for no good reason.

Our club pretty consistently cancels practice- almost every week —without any explanation or justification. A note comes out that just days no practice.

Is this just a money grab? We pay for 3 practices a week and they routinely only have 2. They cancel the practices at the best kept fields as well —presumably saving money on field rentals

Every canceled practice is basically $4-5k in their pocket. Can I ask for a prorated refund of my monthly fee (by my estimate they would owe me about 80 - 100 each month in refund)…

No, never. If a coach is sick/unavailable they have another coach double up teams for practice or another coach steps in and runs practice.

Are you on grass fields? Turf? County fields or private ones? Is this just your team or multiple teams that practice these days/have the same coach?

Never.

How is every cancelled practice an additional 5K in their pocket? My kid's club is 3.5K a year. Say they have 100 practices a year (it's less because summer doesn't happen and fall is light because of HS). If you only count practices that's like 1,750 per practice for 50 kids, but there are more like 30 kids there each evening with 2 coaches. My own kid honestly only goes like 1/3 of the time (school, extra curriculars, and hs when in season are priority...he still plays all games). But...money doesn't go to practice only. Tournament fees and software and subsidizing kids is a huge part of it. A coach might make $100 for practice that night.

If this bothers you you should try out for a more reliable club in May.

I do think your math is totally wrong though.

^Immediate PP here and I realize I didn't answer. Our club only cancels for weather. If coach is sick another coach comes. After the snow they added an additional day per week to make up.

At high school age lots of kids are not there. So they combine 1st and 2nd team.

We have RSVP for each practice. I think maybe once they cancelled due to attendance.

Never. Except for ice, snow and lightning otherwise be there.

Never. Our British coach had the kids out in all types of weather, pouring rain, etc.

Which club?

Only for weather (or snow/ice on the turf), if a coach is sick, another coach covers

Math- 23 players x 10 teams. 230 players x 30 a practice. $6900

Field space- 2k?

$4900 paid for no practice.

Our club also cancels practice -- and they do not give an explanation. When we ask why, they do not respond. No accountability whatsoever.

In summary, find a new club.

Name the club(s). No reputable club is cancelling a lot of practices, but it does happen.

Almost never unless its weather related... even then, they try to find an indoor location if there is time. This is the same for the two large clubs my kids are in.

Let me guess FVU?
They cancelled one (of the 3) practices for boys and girls this week.
