Comparing Sportrock at Rio vs Movement gyms in Rockville, which one is better for best value, kid friendly and membership? They are both rock climbing places. This is for ES kid.

Movement Rockville over Sportrock Rio. Yes, it's an older facility but the climbing community at Rockville is better. Plus, you get access to four other Movement gyms in the area, and a nationwide network of gyms in case you travel to some major cities. Also, if your kid is planning to join a team, which many kids end up doing, Movement is historically better (10+ years) than Sportrock for development. Sportrock in Alexandria was good from 2020-2023 but the coach who ran the program then is gone. Now all the Sportrock locations care about is taking your money. Rio has never really had a real climbing team and I doubt they ever will. It seems more like afterschool extended day.

We're members at Sportrock but have climbed at Movement (and Earth Treks before the change) and Vertical Rock. I would recommend climbing at both places, checking out a team practice if your child is interested in that, and seeing which one you like better before you sign up for a membership. Value wise, the best gym is the one you're actually going to go to and make the most of the services on offer so trying them out will help with that.
