I've seen lots about travel to Morocco and Tunisia but nothing about Algeria. We're thinking of a trip there along with Morocco. Any recent tips/experiences? Especially interested in safety issues. Would also appreciate names of reputable guide companies. (We're a family of four, DH and I in our early fifties and kids are one in high school and one in college, if it matters.) TIA.

We were there last summer (family lives there). It’s very safe but prepare for possible food poisoning (don’t drink the tap water, take pepto bismol, etc…)
Despite being a beautiful country, it’s not at all touristy. The lack of tourism infrastructure can be seen as a plus by some and a negative by others. People won’t hassle you in the streets/markets (like in Tunisia or Morocco) but it might feel more run down and less “polished” compared to the other North African countries. |
OP here, thanks! |
