Replacing lost VA driver's license. Issued temporary while waiting for offcial?

Anonymous
Apologies for a kinda dumb question, but I've been all over the VA DMV site, and I can't see a clear answer. If you need to replace a lost driver's license, will VA DMV give you some kind of paper temporary proof of driver's license while you are waiting for the actual plastic card to be mailed to you? If yes, is such a temporary paper version available if you apply online, or only if you go in person to the DMV? Someone in my family lost their license, and they are also scheduled to take a road trip later this week, so there was concern they wouldn't receive the replacement in time. Figured I'd see if anyone had any personal experience in this. Thanks!

I’ve only gone in person, but I’ve always received a temp paper one while I waited for the official one.

Wouldn't worry about a paper copy. In the rare event they are pulled over simply give DL# or name and address and the officer will look it up.
One of my children is in LE.

Except that it's illegal to drive without having a copy of your driver's license on you, so this is terrible advice.

Yup. Just did this also. You get a temp that you can print or screenshot.
