The messaging app started asking me if I want to convert to "Google messaging" with AI spam filter.

No, you don't want anything Google. They just want "legal" access to your messages. They will still read them regardless and sell the data, but if you agree, it protects them more.

Yes. DP. Google makes most of its money by accessing your personal information, which is partly why Android phones are lower cost. Apple makes most of its money selling you the hardware, which is partly why their phones, ipads, and computers are more expensive.

Neither are "secure" at all. They data mine and share everything. Anyone saying otherwise is just running interference for them.

Using your data in automated way to target more specific ads at you is not sharing it for others to see.
