I'm trying to get an eval for an aging relative who has some sort of cognitive decline. PCP referred us to Georgetown, they do not take new patients. Anywhere else in the region? Inova in NovA? Willing to potentially go as far as Baltimore. |
Get a full physical with blood work first. There are some conditions that can present as cognitive decline that once they are treated, they cognitive issues resolve. |
Any Neurologist can do a neuro psych exam and brain scan |
Inova requires a referral from an inova primary care physician for geriatric psych. |
I have a family member with dementia who moved here. Took me like 7 months to get in with a neurologist at inova. |
what do you expect to gain from an evaluation? |
Download a SAGE test from the University of Ohio. If they refuse the test they almost certainly have Alzheimer's.
Memory on its own isn't dementia. I have an anxiety disorder since birth and that would cause me to have failed a test at age 10, never mind 80. The SAGE test is not memory based. |
Requirement for diagnosis and for care plan, alongside other testing. Have already had two spots w geriatric pcps and they both gave us the same follow ups including testing if this nature. If you haven’t been thru the process and don’t know what you’re talking bout don’t waste my time. |
We got the Neuropsych at Mt Vernon INOVA. Took about a year after neurologist referred |
