Quantitative CogAT score and advanced math

Anonymous
I am pretty clueless about AAP stuff. My second grader scored 135 on the Quantitative section of the CogAT. That was the highest score on any section. They didn't do so well on the Nonverbal section (lowest score) and did fairly well but not AAP-worthy on the Verbal section. Do both Quantitative and Nonverbal scores factor into who gets pulled for advanced math? Does the NNAT factor in too? I have no idea if the school identifies which kids should be in advanced math starting in third grade or if we as parents are supposed to ask? I don't really care either way as long as he's in the math that's the right level for him.

At our school they used iReady and (starting in 4th) SOL scores to determine kids who get pulled into advanced math. The cut-offs were >90th percentile iReady math or pass advance on the math SOL.

Can't hurt to ask.
