Passes by Yohannes in the attacking third were something to behold!

We looked good and in control most of the match - great to see the new generation on the field.

She must have played ECNL. How else could she be so developed at a young age and get noticed by USWNT scouts? ECNL is the way

Moved to the Netherlands when she was 10…. Clearly avoiding the US systems worked out.

Yohannes had to dip out of the DMV and develop in the Netherlands. Which ECNL team is out there?

She actually played at Loudoun at u8 or u9, she's a 2007. But then went overseas to play in Netherlands.

Rec ball at 7 years old is not playing at Loudoun

You can tell she practiced a lot on real grass surfaces and learned some good Dutch techniques. The Dutch are masters of the backspin Chip Over. We stopped teaching that for some reason, it was big in the 80's and early 90's for sure and very effective. Ruud Gullit had some amazing chip goals and passes. Also, she wasn't afraid to slide tackle, a skill best learned on grass.

Fun Highlight video here, culminating with a beautiful chip goal : https://youtu.be/ebGXEXyGlIg?si=_fiUjQxHaaDnWMEB

How has no one mentioned Ally Sentnor? What a banger in her first international cap.

Absolutely!!! I thought she had a great game, she was routinely beating the Colombian players. She was in very good form. The Goal she had was textbook perfect and she landed that deadly shot, which was possibly the best skill (of many) that were showcased last night. We seem to have lost thew art of long rang shooting as well, but with deadly shot like Ally's maybe we'll have some more! Simply fantastic. I had to look up her prep-school...while expensive, they will certainly be proud!

As a tangent, hockey players have been attending these North East prep schools in High School for decades as almost a prerequisite to play in the minors, then in college before ultimately going pro. We now have 3 choices for HS prep-schools in this area (TSJ-TPH, VRSC, and comings next year Bethesday-TPH), wondering if this will be the new secret-sauce for kids moving forward with high level soccer careers? It is too early to tell, but if the quality of Ally is any indication, there might be something to it..but I digress, looking forward to seeing Ally Sentnor play some great soccer for years to come!

Nice try. Her dad accepted a job in Holland. The whole family moved there when she was 10. She didn't go there for soccer.

I was almost more impressed with her turn under pressure by 2 in our penalty box in the first half. The calmness of some of these young players is something to behold. People think we're overplaying our kids with the trainings and schedules but the youth on the world stage, men and women against pros in meaningful games to me proves otherwise.

many youth games in Europe don’t keep score in the developmental years pre12/14 give or take. So no joysticking coaches screaming for wins. That’s bigger than any American soccer mind can probably work their minds around. And two - by u14/15 the top academies are free and entrance based on merit, technique, skill, and soccer intelligence. Nuff said!

Ally Sentor - South Shore Select GA club until last year. 10-15 mins from her home and the only club team she claims from age 6 on. I think we’ve overcomplicated things down here in the DMV
