Are there any middles schools schools registered to science Olympiad? My kid would love this but when I looked on line it looks like only private schools are signed up.
It’s a really great opportunity for kids who love science. I was wondering if there was a reason DCPS doesn’t seem to bother with it |
My kids did Science Olympiad at their MCPS schools. It's a great program that takes a lot of adult support—both teachers and parent volunteers—to coach all 23 events. By high school, the kids could coach themselves, but the middle schoolers needed a lot of guidance and teaching. |
Sir, this is a Wendy's |
Let me rephrase: One reason any school (or school system) might choose not to do Science Olympiad is that it requires a large time commitment of adults outside of class time. This may or may not be the reason DCPS "doesn’t seem to bother with it" while private schools do. |
Let’s be real here. The majority of kids in DCPS middle schools in this town are not even on grade level in basic reading and math. Forget science.
Plus a ton of parent involvement which lower SES families are not capable of doing |
My kids' MCPS schools never did science olympiad. You need parents that want to lead this. |
BASIS does send kids to Science Olympiad (and I'm they sometimes win the regional competition!) |
