I'm updating my alarm system in the District. I've had ADT for 30 years but let the remote human monitoring contract lapse for several years. 10 years ago, when a door was breached, the remote human monitors would call MPD and MPD officers would actually show up at your house. I had several instances of this happening, mostly with clueless pet sitters but once for an actual break in while I was traveling.
Obviously, MPD has faced some staffing challenges after 2020 and I am _well_ aware officers cannot and do not respond / write reports for things they used to in 2014 (ie, stolen bikes, property damage, etc). I accept that and I'm realisitc. What I wonder is, is it even worth it to pay ADT or similar $45/month for remote human monitoring IN D.C. if the protocol is for them to call MPD when there is a door kicked in and ... MPD doesn't come to your house to respond to the alarm? Can anyone living IN DC share first-hand stories from the past 5 years? Anecdotes from Arlington or MoCo are not useful. Thank you! |
