If your dog barks at *only* people of darker skin pigment, are you embarrassed as a dog owner? It could be a dog owned by a black person barking at black people. So no we're not talking just about dogs that are owned by lighter skin pigment humans towards people who are darker.

When the dog does bark at a person, does it mean the dog is scared or are the dogs feeling that their two legged is scared?

On the off chance you're serious... No. Dogs are not inherently racist. Dogs can/do respond to the emotional state of their people. So if you're scared of differently-melanated folx, and your dog picks up on that and barks, welp...

But excusing your dog's bad behavior because you've convinced yourself they just don't like members of a certain race or other group is hot nonsense. Your dog is a dog. It doesn't get to dictate wants/likes/feelings toward humans. It can have them, and it should still be fully under your control and responsive to your commands. It's your job to train your dog to STFU and not bark.

There are a limited handful of circumstances where your dog barking at a person might be acceptable:

1) An intruder in your home
2) A single "alert bark" to let you know someone is at the door (though most owners find this obnoxious and train dogs out of it)
3) A single "back off" bark if someone is encroaching on your space or the dog's space w/o consent
4) A growl or bark to protect its offspring (instinct gonna instinct).

If your leashed dog is barking at humans, you have a owner error issue. Train your dog.

No. I actually remember being worried about this happening when I first got a dog, because I had heard of it, but I have never actually seen it happen. Certainly our dogs never had an issue, and we didn’t do anything to train them or anything. But I guess we did do all the normal puppy training stuff including classes and lots of practice meeting people and such. Which I don’t know if that would help with this because I’m really not convinced it’s actually a thing.

A dog with its owner - one adult and two children - were walking on the sidewalk (dog was leashed) past a house where a man and his daughter were on the walkway of the house about to enter their home. The dog couldn't stop barking at the man and his daughter. No other dogs around. Was it barking at a squirrel?? Saw this from the other side of street while taking a walk. The dog owner should have been highly embarrassed. She is known as a Karen and maybe has "trained" dog to be one too?

No, not in our case. My dog likes to bark once at people often but is not aggressive. It seems like he is yelling "Hey!" but he acts normal. He barks at home for random reasons too, to call our attention to something bothering him, like a shut door, toy out of reach or an empty bowl. He likes to get a word in if a large group is chatting too.

No, not in our case. My dog likes to bark once at people often but is not aggressive. It seems like he is yelling "Hey!" but he acts normal. He barks at home for random reasons too, to call our attention to something bothering him, like a shut door, toy out of reach or an empty bowl. He likes to get a word in if a large group is chatting too.

Ours too, she barks because she thinks thats the way to get someones attention to pet her.
