Educational Advoacte

Anonymous
My nephew attends Montgomery County Schools and they are not following his IEP. His parents need an advance to help with the school to ensure the district is following special education laws and providing the required services. Can anyone recommend someone who has experience working with this district? Thanks

You will get recommendation if you search the special needs forum.

They are really terrible. Spent many thousands and not a one is good. What school OP? You'll get more info from the SN board.

In my experience an advocate helps with writing/getting the IEP, not the implementation. Is this correct?

They should be able to help with either one. But beware. Some advocates will run up your bill studying the child's testing and current IEP, attending meetings and making small and inconsequential recommendations. This was our experience with a large advocacy group based in Bethesda that does lots of work in MCPS.

OP what is happening - is the school following the IEP in a watered-down manner, or are they in gross violation?

I’m going to guess that the school system is doing the best they can with what they have.

You need to hire an advocate AND a lawyer.
