If given the chance, where would you go if you had 4-5 days?
Would be flying into Bucharest or Istanbul. For context, here are the countries we have already been to: Ireland UK Canada Morocco Albania Spain Italy Denmark Croatia Austria Germany |
Romania! I lived there for 3 years and loved it. |
Both will be different from the other countries you visited. It depends on season, and how easy flights will be. I’d go for Istanbul if it’s not summer. If summer, Romania. |
What part? And what parts are must-sees |
Romania >Bulgaria>Turkey>Serbia |
lol…Romania? It’s dreadful and roughly 50 years behind the developed west. Istanbul is one of my favorite cities and has a wealth of culture, cuisine and attractions. Warm, lovely people. It’s apples and oranges. |
So I love both. But Istanbul is one of the greatest cities in the world. If you choose one, go there. |
If you enjoyed your visit to Austria and want to replicate that experience to a minor extent, then Romania is the better choice. |
OP here. Just came back from Vienna. Found it boring and too quiet, an eerie vibe to it.
Although going in the middle of February didn’t help. |
How is Romania dreadful? |
If you found Vienna to be too quiet, you will LOVE Istanbul. |
It’s where the first Borat movie was filmed. |
OMG. Some of the “advice” on this thread is ridiculous. There is no reason to deride a country just because you prefer the other option. Either are great options but very different destinations. I think the best question asked is the time of year you’d be traveling since Romania is generally colder than Turkey.
In Romania most people focus on Transylvania. Most stay in Brasov, though I prefer Sibui. They visit Bran Castle, Sighisoara, some of the fortified churches built by the Germans, and go hiking in the mountains. With only four or five days, you’d likely stay in Istanbul and not explore other parts of Turkey. Istanbul is an incredible city and much more urban than anything in Romania. The major attractions of Istanbul are pretty well known so I won’t go through that. I do prefer the food in Istanbul FWIW. If you go to Bulgaria, you’d be getting a hybrid of each. And the food in Bulgaria is among the best in the world. |
Totally. I also get all my information about the world from Sasha Baron Cohen. |
I guess this is better than zero context but of these places what did you like and like less? |
