My son is playing at the St James next weekend - can anyone tell me about the venue?
I live in the area, but he lives out of state and his team hasn’t played there before. There are 2 venues too, so info on both would be useful. Do they have chairs for spectators? Is parking terrible? What other info can y’all share? |
| I went to see my niece play volleyball there last year, parking was terrible, the entry fee was on the high side to see a bunch of kids, people were ordering Uber Eats to get any food. |
| Yeah the entry fee is always high for these tournaments. We’re there spectator chairs? Or did people have to bring camping chairs? |
| I'm pretty sure they had stands. |
| Parking is so awful! They charge you to park like a mile away and you have to hike thru an industrial park. |
| Get there early and park on the street for free. There are metal bleachers. |
| Get on street fool |
|
The venue is very nice. Big parking lot but it will fill up. I don’t remember parking being expensive last year. If you are PM wave, the morning folks will leave and free up space.
Bring a camp chair. There’s a McDonald’s around the corner, so stop on the way in and also bring snacks. These venues have crap to serve and it’s expensive. Good luck to your team! |
| PP again. The tournament is only at the Springfield location. |
|
Parking is a nightmare so give yourself plenty of time to park. We usually end up parking on the grass in the parking lot where they display new cars from the sponsored dealer. There’s also parking in the back of the facility but those also fill up when they have tournaments.
The food at the cafe is not bad but expensive. The smoothies are good. The wait during peak will be very long. The upside is they serve alcohol. Definitely pack snacks and drinks. |
| St James is a very nice complex. Parking is bad because there are a ton of other things going on there. Get there early. |
|
Make sure your coach left detailed meet-up instructions. The complex is big and a little confusing. The bleachers are tight and uncomfortable. Some courts do have an upstairs viewing area.
The venue is neat. But there can be 4-8 simultaneous "events" going on there at the same time. It can be crowded. Get there a tad early for parking and walking in to meet your team. |
|
OP, it’s 20:16 again. Email from coach today said there ARE two venues! The second is the Michael and Sons Sports Complex in Rockville, where you WILL need a camp chair. Neither the venue nor parking lot is very large.
I can already see many folks being confused. I just hope teams are at the same site for the two days. |
NP here. If we’re talking about the same tournament, some division pools are playing at the Michael & Son Sportsplex in Rockville. |
| Springfield and Rockville are not close to each other. |
