Any Feedback about the DCPR Summer Camp ?

I missed the window for the private summer camps this year and I wonder if DCPR is good or bad.

My now 3rd grader has gone the past two summers to Discovery Camp and it's been great. I hope to get a spot this year for him again. However, my now 5 year old went to Little Explorers the last two summers and it was NOT good. Last year we pulled him after the first week (we had signed up for two sessions, so four weeks) due to serious safety concerns. We will not be signing him up for Little Explorers again.

There are still plenty of private camps with spaces.

They let the little kids play on the big kid playground and one of his friends got a bad concussion going down the slide. The counselors didn’t see it (fine, there’s a lot going on) but then didn’t believe her when she said her brain didn’t feel good. The rule is that any suspected head injury is an immediate call to the parents. They never called. When I came to pick my kid up I saw that she was white and lethargic and not herself. I asked a counselor and she dismissed it as the little girl just missing her mom. I called the mom once I was back home and they never said anything to her at pickup. The girl had obvious concussions symptoms so she took her to the ER.

The counselors all tried to cover themselves in the preceding meetings and tried to blame the girl for not saying “I have a concussion.” They totally messed up dealing with the injury and then tried to gaslight my friend about what happened. She got the head of DPR camp involved. They refunded the tuition but even her communication was very minimal, seemingly afraid of legal action
