How can local government encourage backyard chickens?

Seems like a no-brainer, no? Eggs are simply unaffordable for most people. Why not provide education and encouragement for more interest?

I'd love a pot-bellied pig. Maybe change the livestock laws.

1. I don't live on a farm
2. We have foxes and birds of prey around us
3. I don't live on a farm, nor do I want to.

I agree, I checked fairfax county's website yesterday and they require a site visit or something and approval. Why not just let us have our chickens unless it becomes a nuisance or water discharge issue?

I support your cause, but this is a really bad time because of avian flu. Pause these ideas until later.

So, now is NOT the time to encourage backyard chickens because of bird flu. You realize this transmits through wild birds and virus that ends up in yards, right? Terrible time for backyard chickens!

How can they responsibly do this? Just a no.
Avian flu. Your flock endangers wild birds (saw 2 6 week old eaglets die on a Florida webcam) and vice versa. Pets will catch it. Cats usually die. Dunno if dogs do too. You will have to euthanize your flock.

Just buy the damn eggs and save elsewhere. Or eat something else.

Isn’t there a healthier way to have backyard chickens? People really need to eat eggs that are healthy. Chickens don’t need to be cooped up in your backyard, do they?

Backyard chickens who recover from avian flu can pass on immunity

A backyard chicken has more freedom than basically any commercial chicken.

Girl, go give your brainworm a rest.

Chickens are not cheap. You’ll spend way more than you’ll ever save on eggs.

We hsve them and we don't have the 2 acres FFXco "requires." Never been an issue.

Smh this is how the bird flu is spreading.

Don't they require 2 acres? Unless they changed that rule since I looked into it about ten years ago.
