Camp Olympia - anyone been there recently?

Anonymous
We are looking at Camp Olympia for the summer for our 2 boys- 6 and 8 Anyone been there in the last year or two who can tell us if it's worth it or what it's like?

The google reviews vary from 5 stars and then a series of 1 stars talking about bullying from 5+ years ago. Want to make sure we're not setting the boys up for a rough time before we sign up and pre-pay the entire summer fees.

Didn't know it was still a thing. I went there in the 70s and had such a great experience.

My DD went for 2 weeks last summer and had a great time. She wants to go back this summer. She has a friend who went the summer before and didn’t want to go back. I think the number one thing to know is that it’s 100% outside, the facilities are not new, and it was maybe less structured than other camps she’s done. If your kid enjoys spending LOTS of time outside and isn’t afraid of dirt, they will likely enjoy it. (I have a 2nd kid who gets cranky quickly in the heat. That kid is going to an indoor camp the weeks DD is at camp Olympia)

I really wanted to try this camp but I have heard some not great things. One family said the counselor are not great, that theu mostly get British student counselors (no idea how) and these counselors are not good with kids and often yells.

I hesitated to try as well because I don't understand why they have to find non-US foreign students to be counselors. I wonder if they are paid for free or cheap.

Mostly Brits. It's a good camp. We've been going on and off for the last 9 years

We absolutely love Olympia. I went for 8 years and this is my kiddos 9th summer. Everyone is so positive and Camp O holds a special place in our family.

Girls 6/8 loved it last year. Came home filthy and exhausted. We added swim lessons which were helpful. Will definitely use it again.
