Sandy Spring Slave Museum

Is there anyone involved with the Sandy Spring Slave Museum who is not a current or former MCPS administrator? Anyone who could provide some context without MCPS spin or involvement? TIA

What do you want to know I am the co- director?

I don't work there but I see who volunteers there. Sometimes like-minded people who are friends come together. What's the issue?

If you want to find out from the source feel free to visit us any weekend. We are open from 11-4 if you are really interested in our rich history.

I had never heard about this but it looks really interesting.

It seems to be hosted by a private school, on their property, and has nothing to do with MCPS other than (maybe?) some overlap between the founders/staff and MCPS folks? Even that's not clear.

It's not affiliated with the school. They both located in the town of Sandy Spring.

I've taken chases there for field trips and it's been excellent every time. The directors and docents are incredibly knowledgeable and create a wonderful experience for the students to learn about the enslavement of people and the history of our area. Highly recommend.

Oh wow, I don’t know what this has to do with MCPS but I didn’t know about it and I’m glad to now! Looks interesting.

The interpretive trail there is also really interesting and nice to walk. It was one of the best things we did during COVID.

The place is a bit of a hidden gem. Both my kids went there on a field trip, but when they were still at a catholic school. I’ve never heard of any relationship to MCPS.

I am not involved. It's a small museum in Sandy Spring and if you are in MoCo, worth a visit. They have small but impactful exhibits.

What was the OP’s point?

Starting "mess" when there is none to see. The museum has no affiliation to MCPS. This posting shouldn't be in the MCPS forum.

I am the poster who said like-minded friends work and/or volunteer there. More people should spend less time on screens and volunteer their in-person time toward something productive such as this museum and other worthwhile endeavors.

MCPS administrators are on the museum board. You can’t avoid them.
