When do we start hearing about HS Magnet Wait pool movement ?

Wont be for another week or so, the deadline for those picked let them know if they’re coming m isn’t until Friday.

I don't know if you should think of them as waves but they continually pull from the lottery until the spots are filled up and families can decline at any time. We know kids who got off the wait pool a few days before school started.
I would not hold your breath for Blair as I don't think they got anyone off the waitlist last year as the yield was really high but everyone we know who was waitpooled for RMIB got an offer by the time school started. Our sample size is not big but not really small either as it was around 6-8 kids getting off the RMIB waitlist fom one MS.

There’s usually an initial group coming out of waitpools about a week after the deadline to accept. It’s not even though - depends on how close they predicted yield to each program and how many students received multiple offers.

After that there is some movement during spring as private schools release decisions and some kids drop their spot in MCPS.

May is a good time to reach out to magnet coordinators to let them know you are still interested. There’s not much movement then - people who move or kids who have different thoughts based on spring performance. You want to be the easy phone call that a coordinator will call to fill a spot during summer.
