"Expect heavy traffic 2/10" signs

Anonymous
I keep seeing signs on 295, 395, 495 - really all over town - that heavy traffic is expected Monday and to consider taking metro.

Is the heavy traffic expected related to return to the office? Or is there some event that I'm missing? If it is related to return to office, won't there also be terrible traffic on Tuesday, Wednesday....

Traffic is already terrible

Traffic has always been terrible in DC, certainly you knew this before you moved there?

It's going to be a disaster. Navy Yard is going to be particularly bad.

Yes - I believe most people know that but they don't always have signs. What is the reason for the sign for this Monday? (not OP)

I was born here lol. I'm a DC lifer.

I want to understand why the signs say specifically to expect heavy traffic on Monday and to use Metro.

Guidance changed from everyone being sent back to the office in March to it being next week. Folks that have been commuting all along have to plan to leave earlier due to the increased crush of expected drivers. Metro will be a mess too, but it keeps moving for the most part. We’re all about to get the flu again - only half joking.

Just in time for heavy winter weather next week. Yea?

This is good to know. My son is having a procedure on Monday afternoon at Wash Hosp Center and we live on the other side of the city. I'll be sure to leave plenty of time for extra traffic.

Among other places....

Dang. Thank you for sending. This sounds like it is a long term thing and not a one day event on Monday....

This is such a bad idea. Who thought this was good for anyone or anything?

More pollution -- yea!
More traffic accidents -- yea!
More late people -- yea!
Slower emergency response times - yea!

Wait until it’s snowing Tue and Wed and OPM does not close.

does anyone know if wmata plans to resume any bus routes that were discontinued during covid? it seems like this would help alleviate some of the traffic woes.

I feel like you think you’re smart, and yet you come off as the opposite here.
