I work for one of the above consulting firms and my contract was terminated last week. I guess they could move me elsewhere, but projects seem to be getting cancelled left and right. I have a few irons in the fire elsewhere, at similar firms (more actual defense work, but still).
Just wondering how my fellow contractors are feeling and what you’re planning to do. |
| Scared |
| Terrified but not planning on making any moves right now. I've talked to others and no one is really hiring for obvious reasons. I like my company and don't want to jump ship and not get severance only to get laid off from a new job. |
| Still on for now but looking for other work not fee related. Might end up back in Mcps. |
| The DC economy is going to be in the toilet when Musk gets through with it. |
| Dc economy will be fine so would be the real estate. Money saved from here would be spent somewhere else. |
I’m the OP and my dilemma is that I do have an offer from another company. No idea what to do. |
Are you wanting to move out of panic or does your situation objectively warrant moving? |
I had been wanting to leave my current employer for some time, for reasons unrelated to everything going on now. So was casually looking and ended up being recruited for a job that (under any other circumstances) I would’ve jumped at the chance to take. Argh. Fortunately, we have savings and can live off one income (low mortgage and no kids) but it’s not ideal timing. |
| Why wouldn't you take the offer you have? |
Yes…in tax cuts for a very specific few…which history has shown doesn’t actually “trickle” down. Enjoy your denial. |
I feel like all contractors are going to get hit. |
80% of federal employees and contractor are not in the DMV but the DMV is going to get f’ed including house prices. The whole country is going to burn. Between the tariffs and the destruction of the US government we are talking about a direct impact on 45-55% of the GDP. It will take years for this to settle out. |
Republicans are morons. At least they’ll be suffering along with the rest of us. |
No, it won't. You are exaggerating it because you are in habit of using Govt welfare programs and jobs. Most of these jobs and contractors are literally welfare because the offices are not efficient and agencies just hire, hire, and hire contractors. |
