What does it mean and what do you do when your MCV and MCHC levels are high?

My MCH level and my MCHC levels came back on the higher side.

My MCV level is 105. It was 102 in 2021; and my MCH level is 34.3; it was 32.8 in 2018.

What are the side effects for these levels being high? How can I lower them?

Could be B12 or folate deficiency. Could be alcohol use. Could be bone marrow, but check B12 and folate first and stop drinking for 2 months.

How much do you drink OP? Let's start there.

How old are you and do you have any symptoms?

I don't really drink... maybe 3 glasses of wine a year. I am 45. Not sure if any of this is related but my checks (the temperature) get really hot, my nails are brittle, and every now and then my legs feel like they're falling asleep. I also don't sleep very well.

Have you had your thyroid checked or your B12 checked? Could be hyperthyroidism.

Get your b12 checked. It’s an easy thing to fix but can really mess you up if it’s low

I had these results for a number of years. Turns out I have hemochromatosis. My doctors aren’t worried about it, but it explains my MCV and MCH levels. How are your iron levels? Are they oddly high?

OP here My TSH with Reflex to Fee T4 is 2.820

I don't think my iron was tested. Is it actually called Iron or something more complicated?

Did your doctor suggest a hematology consult? Since you’ve had this for so long I wouldn’t be terribly concerned but it wouldn’t hurt to see a specialist (though I did this for a different issue and now they want me monitored every 3-4 weeks for an asymptomatic thing)
