Confession: Wish I could VERA and FORK!

Anonymous
I have responsibilities, health issues and elementary school aged children. I wish I had the age and the years. I wish I had the psychological comfort of resigning. I am envious of those who can but won't. I want to but can't.

Onward.

Sweet deal, I know. About to send in my acceptance this afternoon. Your time will come.

I agree it’s a pretty good deal for everybody that was gonna retire in the next 8 to 10 months.

I’m sorry things are hard on you and you can’t take the deal.

Health issues and young children can really wear on the soul.

Someday, you’ll be able to look back on all this, I can’t promise what you’re gonna see but you won’t even remember how hard it was.

Yes! Might as well be “I wish I was a trust fund baby.”

How do you do, fellow feds?

Last year, my agency offered VERA and a bunch of people took it. Our recent hires did not replace the headcount. Paid that with last month’s offers being rescinded, probies on the chopping block, and more VERAs, it would be a mess to get anything done.

Thankfully, this administration is so incompetent in how they went about this that nobody wants to take this VERA paired with the “fork”. It’s too uncertain and sus

What are you trying to get done at your agency?
I mean people are being so vague. If it's passports that's one thing but if it's some initiative team thing then that's another thing entirely. What's happening at your agency with things not getting done? What are the ramifications? Is it a stacked backlog or do lights go out somewhere?

Kid, these were questions to ask before you started cutting people, not after.

I hear you OP - from the perspective that yes, it sucks more to be 40 with kids, and really need your job that is being constantly devalued and threatened, than it would to be able to just walk away and know you'd be ok financially. Security is better than instability, pretty much always.

And that's how they're trying to get us.

Sweet deal. Everyone knows this. Elons a genius. Trump too. /s

NP - Reports of fraud, waste, and abuse don't get investigated at my shop. Is that ok with you?

Maybe it’s time you reevaluate your life and see if you can quit, work part time, reduce daily living expenses.
One thing money can’t buy is time. Don't waste your time.

DOJ. We get complaints from the public to investigate. If bad, we file lawsuits. If no staff, wrongdoers keep in breaking the law.

NP. We defend the United States against lawsuits for 10s of millions of dollars. Half of our component is probationary. If they get canned, we'll have to settle these cases, costing tax payers more money. Mistakes will get made, cases won't be defended to the extent they could. And we can't just stop the government from getting sued
