Jersey City/Hoboken Private Schools?

Anyone familiar with these? Any personal experiences to share? We're at a crossroads between choosing one of these privates or moving out to the 'burbs and I'm not feeling super confident about any of the local privates I've seen.

The ones I've looked into so far:
Stevens
All Saints
Hudson School

Our friends who live in JC sent their DCs to Stevens and were really happy with it. For HS, the kids went to Dwight Englewood, Spence, Nightingale, and Grace Church.

All three schools are fine, and Hoboken is lovely.

Why wouldn't you send your DC to publics? Hoboken has wonderful public schools. Stevens, All Saints, and Hudson School aren't sending their kids to Ivies but the public school has and will keep sending more the more people stay.

We live in JC and our kids go to TT private in NYC

Hudson. Hands down.

Stevens had huge turnover of students and teachers. We went here and regret it. Most of our peers too.

All Saints gets very small in upper grades. Nice teachers and families.

I used to live there ... a couple of others that I used to hear good things about were the Mustard Seed school, Hoboken Charter School, and OLC in Jersey City.

Oops, just looked these up and I see the Mustard Seed school no longer exists.

So helpful, thanks. I'm the original poster. I've noticed all of what you mentioned as someone on the sidelines. If you don't mind a follow-up question regarding student retention at Stevens, could you give a sense of the class size (for either Hoboken or JC campus) once you get to the 5-8 grades?

My kids went to OLC 3K-8, and then went onto the TT private high school in NYC.

We were at OLC for many years and loved it initially. School was very nurturing and had great teachers/staff many years ago. But for a few years, there were issues with leadership and lots of teacher turnover. I heard with the latest principal it's better now.

OLC has great emission for high school, considering how small a school it is. Many kids get great scholarships to local Catholic high schools in JC, and into competitive high schools in NYC (Regis, top privates, etc)

For Hudson school, I've heard great things about elementary; but that high school is a bit weak, comparatively speaking.

There's also a French school in JC downtown (don't remember the exact name). Have heard great things about it.

I've heard Stevens has pretty strong emissions for high school (no personal experience there though).

There's also Waterfront Montessori in Paulus Hook. Knew someone who went there, and then got accepted into Regis for high school.

There are a few additional schools in the area: Hoboken Catholic, The Bunswick School, and probably a few more.

Not true. Hudson sent a kid to a Harvard last year. Consistently sends kids to Ivies.

Stevens and All Saints end at 8, so college admissions not applicable.

As small as 6 kids. Pre-k usually full and they lose/replace kids regularly after that. Biggest attrition after 4th.

Former Steven’s parent here.

Adding-All Saints and Steven’s have one class per grade in middle school. Never seen a full class; both quite small by 6th.

Hudson has one class going to 5th, then expands to two classes from 6-8th. It’s around 20-28 kids per class.
