I saw this online:
https://fedscoop.com/opm-reclassify-chief-information-officers-career-politics/ Am I being chicken little thinking this is their grand plan all along? Doesn’t this mean now that every single IT system across the entire government could be overseen by silicon valley tech bros and DOGE? And they could go in and do whatever to the entire government’s IT, like jam through untested, invalidated AI and crypto, right? They could also weaponize AI and crypto in the govt to do whatever they want, like mass surveillance of citizens to interpreting laws the way they want to evaluate court cases. And DOGE may be on top, right? This could change our country for forever. |
| Put down the tin foil |
I think you're going a little overboard, but yes, this is bad. The CIOs have a lot of influence over how digital services are rendered to the public. |
|
No tin foil required. Yes, they are politicizing this like everything else. The people screaming chicken little apparently are fine with their federal law enforcement, lawyers, scientists, safety inspectors, bank regulators, and people overseeing technology and digital security being chosen and retained solely on the basis of their fealty to Trump or to whatever tech bros decide policy and services should be.
Personally I believe in privacy, actual science, medicine, rule of law, and compliance with security and data standards, but that’s me. I’m old and quaint that way. Old enough to find it ironic or maybe just sad that all the people moaning about government corruption are the ones who are making it exist and will control the rest of us. |

The memo has already been taken down.
When I read it last night, it said that current CIOs are impartial and apolitical and that needs to change. Seriously - they wrote that in the memo! |
You are not being chicken little. Watch this: https://youtu.be/5RpPTRcz1no |
| I didn’t want to use the word coup because it felt silly but I read that and yes they’re trying to stage a coup. No tin hat foil needed they’re literally TELLING you what they’re doing and idiots ignore it and bury their heads in the sand. |
exactly. |
Sorry if the Trump Administration wasn’t so incompetent, it would help. |
|
I think at this point we should assume the worst of every action. So no, you are not chicken little.
So many "middle of the road" voters acted like democrats were CRAZY during the election for saying that Trump's plan were a disaster. They would say "oh it's not gonna be that bad". It's actually worse! So yes, we are all right to be incredibly concerned. I think the onus is on the administration to clam these fears. Which they won't do. Because they DO NOT CARE about what is right. Only what they can get away with. |
| It is very hard for me to assess the merits of this. But at my prior agency I definitely saw a big big lack of technical expertise at the CIO and even privacy officer level, as well as the associated positions in the general counsel’s office. I think getting more tech experts in is a good thing. but of course zero reason to trust that is what is actually going on here. |
Yes, I feel crazy but it’s time to sound the alert bells and fight back. Everyone is complying with the illegal memos. |
They are not looking to put tech experts in the CIO positions, they are looking to put political appointees in the CIO positions. |
Can you explain this to me like I'm 5? What are they doing that is illegal and unconstitutional? I see that Coup is defined like this: coup, is typically an illegal and overt attempt by a military organization or other government elites to unseat an incumbent leadership. |
