From MCPS to homeschooling

Who pivoted to home schooling either during pandemic or after, and have still been homeschooling? Do you follow eureka and great reading? Field trips? School with other home students in county?

I’ve had to do homeschooling more than once and would never mimic mcps’s curriculum. Otherwise might as well stay with mcps. Find your own resources and teach how you think subjects should be taught.

I did it for a year due to covid . DD was 3rd grade. No regrets whatsoever. Didn’t keep up with it though.

We did it for 18 months coming from private, but knowing at least one of my 2 kids would end up in McPS. We used Eureka for the older kid and while it was a headache it prepped me for my younger child. I know where to find all the free resources to help her.

Both of my kids (now age 9 and 14) miss homeschooling for different reasons. Older kid misses it because she could get her work done in 1/3 of the time she is chained to a desk at school now. My younger child misses how kind homeschoolers are. Nobody was telling her she was going to hell or calling her a Karen in any of our homeschool environments.

It kills me as a mom to see how regular school changes who they are (one is back in private and one went into MCPS). It’s a real shame the US didn’t use the pandemic to reevaluate running schools like prisons and factories.
