What does your teen take for anxiety?

Anonymous
My teen wants to start taking something to manage anxiety and we were recommended Prozac, which makes me very nervous. We are in the process of setting up a therapist to help with coping tools, but essentially my 15 year old is suffering from a lot of anxiety/stress, racing thoughts and just general inability to relax and fully enjoy himself. If you have a similar child, what worked? Thanks!

Zoloft. I think that’s the most commonly prescribed pediatric SSRI

Both of my DDs take Lexapro for anxiety and depression. One takes 10mg and the other takes 20mg.

Exercise and eating healthy.

Best not to medicate with prescription drugs, unless they are at the point of becoming institutionalized. Even alcohol would be preferrable to SSRI/NSRI/downers.

I am an adult who takes Prozac to manage my anxiety symptoms. Why does it make you nervous?

As a parent whose child fought meds tooth and nail, I want to point out that your child ASKED for meds. Please see this as your child’s plea for help. Give something s try, sooner rather than later, and switch it up if it does not work in some way.

I wish you and your child so much peace.

That can't be stated enough.
Prescription drugs and social hive-mind-media is toxic to kids, and adults who can filter most of the garbage as well. Just avoid both.
