S/O St Pete’s, Clearwater, Tampa - President’s day weekend ?

Anonymous
Thinking about going to St. Petersburg/Clearwater/Tampa area last minute for Presidents’ Day weekend.

Any recent experiences- any tips on different areas - we’ve never been.

For comparison We like 30A Rosemary Beach area, West Palm Beach and Coral Gables Miami

Is it worth being on the beach or Will it be too cold to swim?

Has anyone been to the Busch Gardens there recently? Good for young teens?
Thank you!

The water temperature is only in the mid-60s right now. It's chilly.

We go there all the time in February and DS has no issues jumping into the ocean. Buy a cheap boogie board at Walmart for some extra fun. I'd look in St. Pete Beach and Clearwater (checking for hurricane damage) vs. the city of Tampa.

The water is never super warm in the gulf anyway.

In late summer, it's like bath water. So warm.

We were in Siesta Key at the end of June (for a wedding - I wouldn't go at that time of year otherwise) and even then it was getting to the point where it wasn't super refreshing!

We are big Theme Park goers and that Busch Gardens is very meh. We got admission included with our Discovery Cove ticket and I wouldn’t bother to go back. If want a theme park just go to Disney or Universal.

Clearwater is nice enough but the big Scientology building weirds me out. The Clearwater Aquaeium is fun for a day. But if your heart is set on warm weather, it’s not far enough south.

We’ve had a family condo down in Gulfport FL, close to Tampa, for 20+ years. Presidents Day weekend is a great time to go and, compared to up here, it will be warm. Looks like mid 70s for the next week or so and that’s typical for this time of year. I think it’s warm enough for the beach, eating dinner outside, etc.

I live in St Pete and it's 80 today. Low humidity. This is what we wait all year for.

Looks like it’s forecast to be low mid 70s. It will be great for walking around and going in a heated pool, but probably too cold for the Gulf of Mexico. Maybe look into the opal grand in Delray Beach or the Hyatt coconut point near fort meyers or the Margaritaville Hollywood beach. Those a bit further south and supposed to me low 80s which makes a big difference when going in the water imo.

Also, hotel prices seem to be very jacked up since it’s also Valentine’s Day.
