My ds is off to FSU. In state for us, great campus, nice smaller town, he's undecided and there are good major choices. Most of all, everyone we know who is there is very happy. I don't know much about UTK, did not apply.

This is incorrect. Lots of overlap applications. (Part of the attraction is the presence of big-time football.)

My senior is into UTK and waiting on FSU (out of state). Concern with FSU is very low percentage of out of state kids compared to UTK and other similar schools (South Carolina, Clemson etc).

FL kids, especially coming from south florida, are very diverse though and often have one or two foreign-born parents, or are from another country themselves. That's our case, and the case of many kids we know. Out of curiosity I just looked it up and 32% of our county is foreign-born.

My DS has applied to both.

UTK - deferred
FSU - waiting on RD OoS, so not likely

I am doubtful he will wind up at either school.

Preferentially, he likes UTK over FSU, but he hasn't been to FSU, he has visited UTK and that had a positive effect on him.

He has been accepted to Penn State, and that is high on his list, and it's less than 4 hours away. He is still waiting on VT. He is Villanova deferred...
And Loyola Maryland has recently peaked his interested... he applied late there.

I believe all these options are ahead of FSU, not sure about UTK, if he gets in there. He really liked it, but it is a haul to get there and back...

My dd was not excited about FSU until we visited. It's a great campus (have not been to UTK but from pics it looks pretty similar)

Never met an FSU grad who didn't love their college experience. The girls are foyine, and the Greek scene is one of the best in the country. Look up the FSU Pike house tour on YouTube. It'll blow your mind.
