What does your DCPS elementary or charter do for before care? Ours never restarted it after the pandemic and seems confused about how to go about restarting it now that all these remote and teleworking Feds will need to go back in 5 days a week. What vendors offer it and how much do they charge? If you don’t have it and have another solution please also suggest.
I’ve considered seeing if a nanny in the neighborhood wants to pick my child up and take her to school on public transport before they go care for the littler kids. Or using the Hop Skip Drive (uber but using extra vetted drivers that are former teachers etc - for unaccompanied kids). But I don’t like either of those options I just want to take my kid myself but earlier. |
There is no flexibility on when you start work? |
The same people who provide after care provide before care, there is a separate fee |
Our title 1 school does all before and aftercare in house. They pay teachers and paras extra to do it. Some are with kids from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. |
If I even have a job (which seems increasingly unlikely as of this moment), I’ll have to report for 8 hour days 5 days a week. I can’t do drop off at 8:20 am on the other side of town, in what is going to be worsening traffic due to everyone else being called back 5 days a week, and be to work near the Capitol by 8:30 am. If I’m not in by 8:30 am I will have to leave after 5pm, and I REALLY can’t make it through evening rush hour to school by the time aftercare ends at 6pm. Before care starting at 7:00 am would be ideal. I would drop off then, be to work by 7:30 am, and be able to leave by 4pm and beat a bit of the evening traffic and actually get some time with my child before they go to bed. |
Praying you and so many others fare ok. Starting at 7 might be a bit unlikely, especially with a now pivot to this midyear. 7:30 seems more likely. My son is in HS, but when he was in ES his DCPS before care started at 7:30. |
Capitol Hill School has Polite Piggies which starts at 7. |
Accept Elon's generous offer. |
Our extended day provider starts at 7:00am and goes until 6:30pm. |
Move to Alexandria. School starts earlier. You can drop your kid at 7:20. |
I'm really sorry. It's sad that you were able to do your job, avoid senseless sitting in the car/adding to environmental waste, and see your kid and now you can't b/c we've elected (and not elected) man-babies to run the country. Some schools open doors at 7:30 and let kids just have breakfast before the day starts but if you don't have that now, it's not going to happen this year. And 7am is early. I don't think you'll find that ever.
My advice woudl be to team up with another fed family in the same boat and trade drop off and pick up duties. |
NW DC Elementary. Before care starts at 7:30. Nominal fee. Just ask your school what they provide! |
Oh sorry -- just saw your school doesn't provide it. It's provided by the school, not a vendor AFAIK. |
Whittier offers before care starting at 7 am through the school |
