Anyone know?
https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/tech/powerschool-hack-data-breach-protect-student-school-teacher-safe/3832401/ The company, PowerSchool, is best known for its Student Information System (SIS), one of the most widely used education tech programs in the U.S., and one of the breached systems. The SIS software helps school districts keep track of K-12 students, collecting information like their name, school, birthday, address and parent or guardian. Many districts go further and add information like their Social Security number, health concerns or disciplinary records. |
MCPS's student information system is Synergy, from a different company, Edupoint.
However, Powerschool is the parent company of Naviance, which MCPS uses for HS students with college applications. There was a Naviance data breach a few years ago. |
No. MCPS uses Canvas/Synergy. We had Powerschool in our last school district and it was a much better interface in my opinion. The MCPS Synergy/Canvas looks like it was programmed in 1992 and is so buggy and unreliable. |
But Powerschool and Canvas can be integrated. If anyone is considered, they should ask MCPS if they use Powerschool for any type of student information storage. |
*Concerned, not considered |
MCPS doesn't use Powerschool SIS. |
