We’re honoring a Maureen and a Margaret so we know we want some sort of Mar name. These are our two favorites but entirely stumped on which one is better. Thoughts? Any other ideas?
Planning on saying it Mahr-uh but Mair-en which I feel like are the most intuitive. |
I like Mara! |
“Maren” sounds like you’re trying to say another name around a mouthful of taffy. |
Maren is so ugly. Mara is better. Marisol is beautiful. I also like Marisa and Marley. |
Mara or Marisa
Don't like Maren. It looks a bit gender neutral and is quite rare. I only know of the country singer. |
Just be aware that Mara is the Hindu goddess of death. Separately, for Buddhists, it's also the name of the demon who sends his daughters to tempt the Buddha. In the western hemisphere, it's not positive either. |
What about Maura/Moira? |
I like Maura. There’s also Marin but agree you’ll have to decide how to pronounce it. |
Marlena/Marlene
Marilyn Marianne Marigold Maralee Margot Mariah Merrilee |
Martha/Marta
Marjorie Marian Marina Martina Marla Marabel |
Vote for Maren. Mara is too close to Maya/Mia |
I say no to maren. Mara is ok but consider just choosing a name you love rather than making the pattern fit. |
Why not Maureen? It’s my name and I love it 😊. In all seriousness, it’s not super common but not difficult to pronounce or spell. I’ve only met one Maureen who’s younger than me (I’m 49); I think it’s due for a comeback! |
+1. Avoid Mara. look under folklore , mythology under the name "Mara" in wikipedia. Lots of negative connotations. |
Don’t like Maren at all. What about Maris? |
