Barcelona - where else to go?

Anonymous
My wife and I will be in Barcelona for a week but are going two days early and would love to spend a few days exploring another city (not Madrid). We are flying in and out of Barcelona but can take a short flight somewhere for a few days.. we were thinking Mallorca, which is a quick flight away. Any thoughts on Mallorca or somewhere else for a quick weekend trip from Barcelona?

I would go to Girona or Perpignan. Or maybe Valencia. By train.

What time of year? I would go to a beach town- plenty of nice ones within 90 minutes or so.

This would be in March

Rent a car and drive up to Cadaques via Girona - pop over the border to France if that's your thing-- then drive back down the coast stopping at all the charming seaside villages like Blanes and Lloret de Mar

Seville!
Fabulous in March.

I would take the train, not fly. Flying eats up more time and you don't get to see anything during the journey. Lots of options on the plane. You could even go to the south of France and back. Or Alicante or Valencia or Madrid or someplace in Catalunya. You could also stay put in Barcelona and do a day trip or two. Cadaques, etc

Toledo or Salamanca

If you like Salvador Dali, the Dali Theater-Museum in Figueres is worth a visit. It's an easy day trip by train.

I love Mallorca so that’s where I’d go.

You can train or drive or bus to Tortossa.

We did a day trip up the coast to Tossa de Mar. About an hour north of Barcelona.

Enjoyed the beach and the old fort.
