Water damaged passport--what to do?

Just renewed a passport. It arrived today and USPS put it on the porch in the rain where it sat for 5+ hours. the cardboard envelope soaked through--it's as if the passport was dunked.
What to do? We travel Feb 14th to Mexico. |

| OP here. Nevermind. travel is actually the 10th so we made an appointment to get it replaced. Major PITA. |

You'll have to go through an expedited process to get a new passport. Start here:
https://passportappointment.travel.state.gov/appointment/new/travelplans/68ECCD37CF327315F7C8729DCED423D9 Maybe contact them to see what the process is for replacing a damaged passport. File a claim with the USPS for the cost of the passport processing. |

| This happened to me while I was in Germany. Spilled a huge beer at the Hofbrauhaus, lol. This was 35 years ago. They almost didn't let me on the plane to go home, but in the end they did. Nowadays they wouldn't have. |
