Cleats - Firm ground or multi ground?

Anonymous
I had no idea there is a difference in cleats used on real grass and outdoor artificial turf. Since most kids play on both during the season, which cleats should I get? The best ones are usually specifically for firm ground. Is it going to be a problem? I really just found about it…
If you have any recommendations, please share . Thanks

FG on turf will create issues. Use AG ones or Turf soccer cleats.

So I need two sets of cleats?

Yes, they are key to preventing injuries. Also, most of the fields my kids play on (they are both in the most competitive leagues) are turf fields. I will invest in those and get a cheaper FG for other fields when needed.

Can you recommend a good pair?

Nikes or Adidas are great. Local stores usually don't have a very good selection. Go to soccer dot com or something similar and sort by AG types; you will see different options there. Elite ones have worked great so far.

Thanks . There doesn’t seem to be many options though. Mostly just club/academy. I don’t see any elites for kids

No, AG turfs will also work on firm ground/natural surfaces. If you are using turf shoes then you'll need two pairs.

Thanks.
Unfortunately as soon as I choose “youth” all that they have is one Puma.

Any other options? What do your kids have? I guess I need to get multi grounds

Choose instead a man or woman's size. They have the numbers there. It's good for teens, too, unless your player is very young.

U9…that’s why we don’t know much about cleats!

U9 - don't overthink it.

They should be fine with whatever you get.

We really didn't start to get very serious about this sort of stuff until much later - like HS years when feet aren't growing super fast and they will accumulate a few that they can rotate through.

I remember having a conversation when my son was about U9 with another Dad about cleats and how he bought this pair for his DS because of improved feel for the ball and nearly laughed. Come on, they are little kids.

Good luck

This is good advice, that young it really does not matter. Sorry I shared extra info, I assumed the player was a bit older

For U9 anything will work. We didn't start getting the specific grass types until U11-U12 because they start to move a little more dynamically to the point they could get injured due to improper footwear.
