Magnet Welcome Meeting

DC was invited to attend 2 magnet programs, but we haven't received info. from the program coordinator regarding the welcome meeting and we don't see anything online. Anyone know how and when this is typically communicated?

We got the emails the same day. What magnets?

Neither program is merit based.

What does this mean and how is it relevant? I haven't seen anything in Special Programs designated as "merit based." These are consortia application programs.

You should have received emails from the program coordinator (Lisa Gerhardt) the same day- welcome meeting is Feb 6, there is also a form you need to fill out and additional instructions. Maybe check your email spam folder or email her directly if you did not get the email.

From Wheaton the info went to our kid's school email instead of parent. Maybe check there?

OP here. Our kid doesn't have a school email as he's not currently an MCPS student. We have a Parentvue account, but there's nothing in email there. We've emailed Lisa Gerhardt and hope we'll get caught up. Thanks so much!

OP again. Is the February 6th Welcome Event during the day, evening; in person or online?

It means your child will be accepted or denied based on their race and gender, not on their credentials. If it’s not relevant to you, that’s fine, but that’s the way it is, so you should be informed.

It's not relevant to the _question_ that OP asked. The need to constantly call out lottery vs. criteria programs on this board is simply exhausting. Please confine those discussions to threads that are actually on those topics.

And merit-based criteria. Test scores, grades, etc. So grow up and move on.

Don’t argue with trolls who just want to stir things up. Waste of energy.
