| I am looking to move and with the new administration trying to find out what schools lean left vs. right? Thank you |
| The entire area is center-left to left, OP. There used to be gradations, as in Takoma Park was far-left, Bethesda/Chevy Chase was limousine liberal with some conservatism, etc. But now the entire region is united against this bizarre administration. There are conservatives everywhere in the region. But very, very few MAGA supporters. |
| Thank you. useful. I guess all the conservative folks go to private schools then? Any I should stay clear of (I'm going to enroll my pre-K student into private most likely, my teen not so much). |
| Conservative folks live in Virginia. |
| Places like Poolesville and Olney have more conservatives. |
Please post on the Private School Forum to have more accurate details. Some privates are very progressive, like GDS. Every single non-religious school will be center-left to left, because most wealthy people lean left here. Some Catholic schools and perhaps other schools from other denominations will be socially conservative, but not all of them. Jesuit schools are usually less conservative than other Catholic schools. Social conservatism doesn't mean MAGA. The Church has a duty to care for the indigent and vulnerable of any nation, regardless of paperwork, so certain ideologies will never align. If you're interested in the most academically reputable schools - and opinions vary on which to include in that group - such as Sidwell (Quaker school), and the Cathedral schools (Episcopalian), they're all center-left. I'd like to note that most of us will be courteous if we learn that you work for this administration. I know many decent conservatives in Trump's first term, who felt called to be the bulwarks of democracy against the anticonstitutional or illegal excesses of Trump 1.0. Someone has got to be on the inside looking out for those of us on the outside. I'm sure there are some around for 2.0 as well. But you are correct to beware of your children's experiences in school. Kids tell it like it is. |
| Is it true students taking Chinese for world language are more aligned to right-maga territory? But how would one know unless those students are saying so in class?? |
Is this your roundabout way of asking if Chinese people here are more aligned to right-maga territory? |
No OP, they don't. Most folks, no matter where they fall on the political spectrum, go to public school. We don't know what schools you should stay clear of, because we don't know anything about you. |
OP is talking about a specific cluster/area. That area just has very few conservatives. |
|
Gross.
You can find the results online by precinct. |
I live in this cluster and hard disagree. You don't speak for all of us. |
When moving to an area, I don't think I would ask this question. I'd want to know how good the schools are. So I suppose this person heard that the schools are good, so maybe the liberals are doing something good. For the taxes we pay in the DMV, we probably have one of the best public school systems in the country. |
No, they're not. Asians in general are not more right-wing than any other group in the DC area. Kids of any ethnic group trying to learn Mandarin (not "Chinese") are not more right-wing than any other kids learning other languages. What on earth are you trying to get at, here?!?! |
