Hair smoothing treatment

One beauty treatment I’ve never done is hair smoothing. I always see it on my Stylist menu of service services. It’s $300 plus tip.

Would any of you ever recommend this? I have Caucasian hair that’s a little frizzy and thin. I’d be 2A curls if I let it / if I encouraged it. But for most of my life I blow dry it 2-3x per week.

Sorry. I did talk to text. Though I cleaned it up, I did not notice all the stuff in the first paragraph.

I think you are referring to a keratin treatment. There are different types that last different amounts of time, some more toxic than others. I used to do this every 12-18 months or so, for about 5 years. The treatment was about $600 and made my fine, frizzy hair crazy straight -- but in retrospect it was not that flattering on me.

At some point I reevaluated! The treatment had worn off, and quite by accident, I discovered washing at night instead of the morning, using sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner, and a leave-conditioner on the ends. I let it air dry, and it's often still a bit damp when I go to bed. It looks a little crazy sometimes when I wake up in the morning, and I just use my Dyson to shape it a little, or sometimes I'll use a flat iron to straighten some pieces and bend/wave others. I avoid brushing it and I also find styling products also generally do more harm than good for me. I've tried all of them! Now, it's just the leave-in conditioner. My hair has honestly never looked better. It is bouncy and smooth, and the frizz is gone, even in the worst humidity.

Long story short: try the treatment if you are curious and have the money to burn, but you could consider trying some other things instead if you're just trying to combat frizz. Basically, do less rather than more.
