Anyone know anything about College Park schools? I know it's PG county (yikes), but how about

University Park Elementary
Hyattsville Middle
Northwestern High School

Thanks for any insight!

I assume you know about the mdreportcard website?

http://www.mdreportcard.org/StatDisplay.aspx?PV=1:4:16:1902:3:N:6:1:1:1:1:1:1:1:3

University Park has a good reputation in terms of test scores, especially considering that about 20% of the school qualifies for ESOL services.

In their most recent school climate survey, parents, students and staff seem quite happy with the school

Also the school Improvement Plan has more details:

My niece and nephew got to University Park Elementary and LOVE it!! As do my SIL and BIL. . .My DH also went there, as well as Hyattsville Middle and Roosevelt H.S.

I have heard that Northwester H.S. isn't great but is improving a lot. Roosevelt H.S. has an excellent magnet program and has been named a top 100 high school by U.S. News and World Report.

Hyattsville middle school isn't great but it isn't horrible, and really, it's only for two years. My niece will be going there next year so I can give an update later

Hollywood Elementary in College park is also supposed to be very good.

Ugh. Reading that PG county post makes me blood boil all over again. If you really only want your kids to go to school with nearly all white, privileged kids (Howard), OK and throw in some high-achieving Asians, and that's what you think makes a great school, then move along. PG isn't for you.

I don't understand your post. What's wrong with PG county?

Read it again. And read the older post that's linked above.

I still don't know what your post has to do with the previous post, there is not mention of Howard (county?) in it. I don't know what part of PG county you are living in, but it is certainly NOT nearly all white, privileged kids with high-achieving Asians. . .

I think PP was referring to the thread (not post) that was linked a few posts ago... this one: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/72935.page

and the comment someone made:

There is no way I would give up FCPS for PG. Please really research your options and neighborhoods and the schools associated, please.

What about Howard County?
