Going to try to do a Maui trip first week of June with DH and 8 and 5 year olds. We are looking to these two areas, mostly at Marriott properties, any advice between the two? We are planning for beach and pool at the hotel, we also really like walking and easy hiking. Plan to eat out often, like upscale but certainly for not every meal. Any advice? |
Wailea. Kaanapali is in a depressing area because of the horrific fire. |
Not true at all. All of the Kaanapali resorts are north of the fire area and were not impacted. Its a lovely area OP. We were there last summer. Gorgeous views of Lanai and Molokai. |
Wailea. Even before the fire Wailea was nicer. Kapalua is also very nice if you go farther north. |
We have always enjoyed the Kaanapali area more but we are pretty laid back in general. We like walking the path to Whaler’s Village and we really like the beach near the Westin and snorkeling down by the Sheraton at Black Rock.
Wailea is definitely gorgeous but the general area feels much more upscale, even the shopping and restaurants. We also like the location of Kaanapali because it’s not far from Kapalua and it’s not a bad drive to Kihei. That being said, we used to go into Lahaina all the time and many of our favorite places are gone. |
Wailea feels like the fancy part of LA. Very upscale but also sort of sterile. Just depends what you are looking for. |
How about Kihei? |
I liked the beaches in the Wailea area, but they are both lovely. |
