AYPO

Has anyone had a child get into American youtg prelude strings while still on Suzuki book 1 for violin?

No way. Too basic

I don’t know about them specifically, but generally for “try out required” orchestras you want to be minimum book 2, if not Book 3.

I’m unfamiliar with AYPO by DCYOP debut orchestra will accept students as long as they can play 3 scales and the first four songs in Suzuki Book 1

AYPO and MCYO are much more selective than DCYO, but I am not familiar with the ensemble OP has cited, so can't say specifically what the requirements would be. Years ago, DD entered Prep Strings of MCYO, age 8-9, at the Suzuki book 5 level.

DCYOP has more levels of programs and doesn’t segregate by age. For younger kids, they can actually get into higher levels of DCYOP than MCYO. So while it is true that the top orchestra of MCYO is more selective than the top level of DCYOP, it is actually not the case that MCYO is necessarily more selective at younger ages.

You could try the appropriate level in TCSYO

What would be the point? If you are doing Suzuki lessons, presumably the child participates in ensembles and group performances already anyway.
