Worried about heavy bleeding

Anonymous
I have an doc appointment Monday, but am worried about an onset of heavy bleeding that started last week. I’m 51, and was confirmed in menopause about two months ago. My GYN doc suggested I remove my IUD at that time, which I did. With the IUD I still had occasional spotting even up to my labs that confirmed I was in menopause. But no regular periods.

Now on day 5 of very heavy bleeding. Going though pad after pad. I’m not feeling light headed so I’m going to wait for my appointment Monday vs the ER. But worried.

Anyone experience anything similar? What was the diagnosis? I’ve never had fibroids and have not had any uterine issues. Googling is not reassuring me.

cold pack 15 minutes on 3 hours off. Take advil or aleve to slow bleeding every 4 hours. Stay hydrated with broth, water, electrolyte water.

You can also try the over the counter opill but to slow the bleeding since it's progesterone but you will be in the doctors office monday anyway.

So you have been without a cycle for 12 consecutive months? If not it's not as alarming. Numerous doctors I've seen for perimenopausal gushing unconcerned. Hope that's the case for you. Keep us posted.

OP here - while still using the IUD I had occasional spotting. But it was truly spotting and it was usually gone within 36 hours. My doc said I was definitively menopausal - not perimenopausal. Not sure if that makes a difference but I was essentially told not to expect any periods and could therefore remove the IUD.

Menopause is kind of difficult to determine - maybe your doctor was wrong? maybe your body just had one more period in it?

I don't know.

But what I would suggest is make sure you are taking iron - after a few months of heavy periods last year my irons dropped like a stone - Slow Release Iron is helpful! Gentle Iron constipated me, but the Slow Release is great and my iron is back up to normal levels.

I hope the bleeding ends soon.
