Empire chicken - bad after one day

Anonymous
Bought chicken thighs from TJ Empire brand and they were about 5 days from sell by date.

Opened and used one thigh, put in Tupperware in fridge and went to cook the rest the day after.

But when I opened the container it smelt awful. Not ammonia, but bad musky smell that stayed in my nose.

I couldn’t believe it went bad that fast and still before sell by date, and we are the first thigh no problems.

Does empire chicken have an odor that maybe I missed when out of packaging that built up or did it really go bad early and fast.

Usually we buy TJ organic chicken, which is a Perdue chicken, but this was empire kosher chicken

Trader Joes doesn't sell good meat. End if story. I only buy my meats from a specialty butcher OR whole foods, and we only consume organic meats/fruit/veg/grain/dairy.

What about Aldi or Lidl?

TJ is notorious for not controlling cold storage well. I never buy meat there.
