Presidential reward for elementary school

Someone tells me that there's presidential reward for kids at 5th grade if that kid gets straight As since K to 5th grade. Really!? I thought elementary school grades are NOT that important.

And that reward isn't that important either.

It's "award" rather than "reward" and anything tied to the current president means nothing.

Yes there is a Presidential Academic Award at ES level.

I think my son received something signed by Trump one year. It was embarrassing.

Yes, my kid's school had these awards given out at graduation and there were silver button and gold button awards. It was a copy of a certificate signed by Joe Biden and a little gold button/pin. My kid was excited to get it.

PP here. Maybe almost 3/4th of the grade got the silver and 1/4th got the gold. My kid said 3 or 4 kids did not get anything. Maybe they did not get a passing grade but were still going to MS?

Hm, this definitely isn’t at all schools.

My son got that award a long time ago. I think he has to have all As and Bs from grades 3-5. Probably 80% of the kids got it. I’m glad we left public education then.

My kid did not get this and got straight As.

Because you think 80% wouldn’t get it in private???

You are way overthinking it.

It's a gimmick to encourage kids to care about school.

Our public ES "promoted" ( = 'graduated' from 5th grade) about 100 kids a couple of years ago. I think 3 got the gold award and about 12 got silver. If it helps motivate kids, I think it's a great idea.
