Robinson vs Fairfax

If your choice was between Robinson SS or Fairfax high school where would you send your kids?

(I’m familiar with IB vs AP- looking for a perspective of the schools beyond the pros and cons of just those 2 programs). Thank you!

I live in the Fairfax HS attendance zone. My neighbors seem to be happy with it. One of our babysitters thought about going to Robinson for IB but decided to stay at Fairfax and seems happy with her decision. The Principal at Fairfax was just named the Region 5 Principal of the Year. The theater programs we've seen there are excellent. It has some cool Academy classes. My daughter did Pyramid chorus there this year and the High School choir is very good. The City of Fairfax provides extra funds for certain things and some additional teachers for all of its schools. Fairfax City schools are owned by the city and the city contracts with the county to run them.

Not important enough differences to matter.

I have taught at many schools within FCPS, and Robinson is by FAR the best for how admin treats staff. I think that trickles down to kids.

But I'm sure Fairfax is lovely too. I'd really base it on AP/IB, since that's likely the only significant difference between the two.

Fairfax. Hands down.

My kid had an excellent experience in the IB program. As a teacher in FCPS, I can tell you that the high school special education program is not well-run, if you have any need of those services.

One of the nicest things about Robinson- if you have younger kids you never have to deal with the early MS hours.

I think they are both good options otherwise

This almost seems unfair to the rest of the county.

Secondary schools like Robinson are on the later high school schedule rather than the earlier middle school schedule.

We are at Robinson. It's too big. If your kid is outgoing and great at sports, then it's a good place. Otherwise, I'd take a look at Fairfax. The whole IB thing is pretty annoying, but makes no difference really.

My kid just graduated in 24 with an IB diploma, and I was impressed by all of her teachers. She formed great relationships with them, and it’s clear they are passionate about IB.

^ at Robo of course.

Also, I don’t think it is too big at all. There is something for everyone there.

Agree with PP that I’ve found the size of Robinson to be a plus, not a minus.

Lots of enthusiasm for theater and band in addition to sports, and a ton of after school clubs.

Have always been impressed by Robinson kids. The way they conduct themselves at sports events etc. good place.
