Summer PE

Could someone provide CURRENT requirements for summer PE? My rising 9th grader wants to do it to free up space for an additional elective. When HS counselors visited the MS, they said that summer sports participation would count toward the requirements. This is very different than what others have experienced in the past, which involved a fitness watch, a set daily workout and class time, a scheduled exam, etc. I don’t want to create schedule rigor for my DC this summer, nor do I want to plan family vacations around a PE exam date, so trying to figure out what’s what for summer 2025. Wondering if it changed or my DC misunderstood the counselor. Thanks.

Depends on how you take it. Virtual Virginia is the least rigorous option

My son took PE10 w/ feps last summer (2024) as a rising 10th grader. He has to have a fitness watch, daily workout, daily synchronous learning, and an hour (or more?) of work every day. The schedule dates are set and they were very clear that you could not miss class. That all being said, we would totally do it again. Still being 14 yrs old, he wasn't old enough for a summer job but was too old for camps, etc. This kept him busy and he could do it from home. His daily tennis counted for his physical activity (verified by the fitness watch!) so it worked well.

Probably what the counselor said was that if he's wearing his fitness watch while playing his summer sport, that will count as his activity time.
